Papa John’s Style Garlic Butter Dipping Sauce

Epicurious
Servings 0.5 cup

This thick, savory sauce is inspired by Papa John's breadstick-dipping sauce. But this one is made with real butter, so it tastes even more delicious.

Notes

This recipe was modified based on the following article from America's Test Kitchen: France’s 5-Minute Magic Butter Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons water - or low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 stick cold unsalted butter - (1/2 cup), cubed
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • kosher salt - to taste

Instructions

Make the beurre monté:

  • Bring the water to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium-high heat.
  • Reduce the heat to maintain a very gentle simmer.
  • Add 1 piece of butter and cook, whisking constantly, until the butter is melted, 20 to 30 seconds.
  • Continue to cook, whisking in butter 1 piece at a time until all of the butter is incorporated and the sauce has the consistency of thin gravy, 3 to 4 minutes.

Season and serve:

  • Whisk in garlic powder.
  • Season with salt to taste.
  • Reduce the heat to the lowest possible setting and cover to keep warm.
  • Before using, whisk the sauce vigorously to blend in any butterfat that has collected on the surface.
